The BIGLab is a campus-wide virtual laboratory and knowledge hub in blockchain, distributed ledger technologies and design innovation involving Técnico – Lisbon and associated ICT research institutes LARSyS and INESC-ID, launched in the context of the UE BiG ERA Project.
Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) is bringing about a potential for improvement in citizenship and economic growth worldwide, enabling decentralized, trusted, transparent, user-centric digital services, stimulating new and improved business models, and promoting decentralized social innovation, with foreseen impact in multiple application domains: from medical data to smart homes and grids, citizenship and democratic decision making, transport, creative industries and digital social media.
BIGLab provides a synergistic and interdisciplinary access platform to cutting-edge expertise in DLT and design innovation perspectives, closing the circle from fundamental research to innovation and back, leveraging a deep understanding of human needs through strong case studies in different application domains in collaborative activities within a network of industrial affiliates and national and international academic partners.
