The BIG ERA Chair Project is excited to announce an upcoming online talk by Jan Boelen, the Artistic Director of Atelier LUMA, on March 8, 2024. The event, titled “After the Product Designer, the Social, the Critical and Speculative Designer. Now, the Bioregional Design Practice?” will delve into the evolving landscape of design and its intersection with bioregional principles. The talk is scheduled for 10 am, with an expected duration of one hour.
Jan Boelen is a renowned figure in the design world, currently serving as the Artistic Director of Atelier LUMA, an experimental laboratory for design in LUMA Arles, France. Previously, he held the position of Head of the Master Department of Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands. Boelen’s extensive experience includes curatorial roles at major international design events, such as the Istanbul Design Biennial and the Biennial of Design in Ljubljana.
Jan Boelen’s talk is organised as part of the Doctoral Program in Digital Media at Instituto Superior Técnico, with the support of the BIG ERA Chair Project. In collaboration with the Interactive Technologies Institute and INESC-ID, this event aims to explore the transformative potential of bioregional design practices. Boelen will share insights into how design can contribute to a sustainable and harmonious coexistence with our natural surroundings.
