BIG ERA Chair project hosted the 2024 Board meeting

After its second meeting on June 15th 2024 at INESC-ID headquarters, the BIG ERA Chair Board acknowledged the scope and quality of the project progress as presented by the ERA Chair and team. The ERA Chair Board supervises the strategy of the project, monitors the quality of the work and its overall progress, contributing to develop and organize technical aspects, solve operational problems, among other aspects. Its composition is the following:

The meeting, in which the BIG ERA Chair coordination and research teams also participated, focused on the review of the activities that were performed under the Reporting Period 2 and recommendations for the Reporting Period 3.

It addressed the importance of these initiatives for the promotion of key development areas, such as Blockchain; the diversity and depth of the research networks that were implemented with the project; the diversity and multidisciplinarity of the research work; and the significant number of master and Ph.D. student thesis developed or being developed in the scope of the project. The Board also discussed the connection with industry, namely how it can be further developed in the context of the BIG project. Finally, the board addressed the long lasting impact of the project that was created with the hiring model that was implemented of faculty members that are or will expectedly transfer to tenure positions at IST, and the way it can serve as a case study for attracting new high quality talent to academia.
