On April 8, the international academic and professional technology communities will come together in Lisbon for the 1st International Workshop on Dependable and Secure Web3, Blockchain and Smart Contracts (DepWeb3). Held as part of the 20th European Dependable Computing Conference (EDCC 2025), this workshop will focus on the reliability, security, and interoperability of emerging blockchain and Web3 technologies.

Co-organized by the BIG ERA Chair project together with the Blockchain.PT PRR Agenda, DepWeb3 aims to highlight the transformative potential of blockchain — a technology set to store 10% of global GDP by 2027 and add over $3 trillion in trade by 2030. The workshop offers a unique platform for researchers, professionals, and technology enthusiasts to explore blockchain fundamentals, smart contracts, and their wide-ranging applications across sectors such as finance, supply chain management, Internet of Things (IoT), and the public sector.

The programme includes discussions on key themes:

  • Web3 and Blockchain Fundamentals: Including dependability, consensus mechanisms, decentralization, and data availability.
  • Cross-Chain Interoperability: Focusing on multi-chain systems, bridges, architecture, and security challenges.
  • Smart Contracts: Exploring attacks, monitoring, privacy, and the token economy.
  • Use Cases: Ranging from decentralized finance and IoT to education, healthcare, and smart grids.

DepWeb3 will foster dialogue between academia and industry, promoting knowledge exchange and advancing the values of transparency, trust, and security in distributed systems. With the active participation of the blockchain community and contributions from ongoing European initiatives, this workshop is poised to enrich the EDCC ecosystem.

The workshop will take place at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL), a leading institution in science and technology, and home to the LASIGE research unit — a centre of excellence in cybersecurity and dependable systems research.

Registration for EDCC 2025 is open until April 11. Don’t miss the chance to take part in this milestone event and be at the forefront of dependable and secure computing.
